A discovery that this coach is only fitted for ETH and won't take steam heat, so rest of train stays cold until Heywood, then a discovery of a ruptured bag half way down the train, so no heating on the way back!! P1170438.JPG

    Didcot 1985

Not the greatest of images as a digital photo of a print.

To coincide with the launch of the Famous Trains stamps by Terence Cuneo in 1985 the Royal Mail chartered trip with the Orient Express set (as it was then) from Paddington to Didcot via I believe Banbury. There was a TPO demo at Didcot.
My (now) wife through the market research company she then worked for was at the time the biggest user of Datapost in the country and hence was invited. Although I went to many other events with her, this was a one person invite I am sorry to say. Participants were encouraged to "dress the part" as can be seen. My other half hiring hers from Bermans and Nathans then the leading costumier in the country. She is the one next to the guy in the top hat.
A selection of participants, my wife whilst they were all still able to stand. Arrival back at Paddington, not so many.
Both Terence Cuneo and the lovely Sally Thomsett of Railway Children Fame were at Paddington for the departure ceremony. Somewhere I have quite a few pictures of my own I must look out.
