Does anyone have any decent photo at READING of the Class 33 plus three Mk1s plus PMV sets that worked certain services on this line in the 1970s in lieu of the more normal Tadpoles, or of a rare appearance of a 6 car DEMU on these services (only ever saw this a couple of times) or even of an East Sussex (13xx) unit here. (or memories of same)

well yes, but they would have been in Reading South whereas the period I would like to recall is after that closed and steam finished and they ran into platform 6 (sometimes 10) if a Tadpole and 8 otherwise to run round if a 33 or went to the carriage sidings to do this, with a lie over period (several times, we got cab rides doing this , on the last occasion the loco came back Light and was routed through the Up Main Through line...whoops.....quick stop at the green signal whilst we bailed out on to the track!

Platform 6 with a Motorrail train in No8 which would make it about 9 0r 10 am Saturday

This is a 33 in green in Reading but I think it's a parcels train on the freight avoiding line 88 and 55 were the headcodes for the Guildford line as I recall

In the same vein, does anyone have any photos of other than standard 2BIL and 2HAL units in platform 4a? Occasionally we would see one of the flat front HALS or one of the hybrids but one never sees pictures of these aspects of the fascinating scene at Reading General in the 1970s.

Don't have any pictures, but I think the 4 CORS were on the Reading-Waterloo services for a while after they were displaced from the Portsmouth services.
More interesting is seeing the pictures of Reading Station which is no more in that condition with the current "butchering" going on.

yup, sad to see it change but it had to happen. Yes the 4CORs followed the BIL and HALs but there were all sorts of oddities in the BIL/HAL fleet.
