Throughout the steam era there has been a lot of proposed but not realised steam design put forward from different engineers. Many of them included also interesting sketches or even more detailed drawings.
Let`s imagine that one of these projects was going to be created as a new build. Which engine(s) would you love to see become a reality?

    Knut :)

Gresley 4-8-2 or 4-6-4 for me! Or, more practically, the proposed Gresley 3-cyl 2-6-4T (although I'd settle for a Thompson L1 for the NYMR).

Wardale’s 5AT 4-6-0. Would it actually have turned out as ugly as it looked in the concept drawings?

Fugliness is in the eye of the beholder! :) Teensy weensy chimneys do nothing for me.

There are a couple of designs I could think of which would've been better for non-interference from without the CME's dept!

    R W Urie's 4-8-0. Or was it just a figment of Stephen Townroe's imagination?

The LYR 2-10-0. Ah this is the impressive Lanky Flamme, I think someone made a 4mm model of the proposal years ago, it was in Railway Modeller or similar, strong Belgian influence.

With or without K-H front truck?

I've always wondered at the lack of genuinely non-stop services of Southern services between Waterloo and Exeter. Did the serious 1906 accident at Salisbury become so indelibly ingrained in the company's psyche that not even higher capacity water carts were ever considered for showcase express serices?
