Not really news, but a few years ago the Bluebell Railway and Furness Railway Trust jointly recovered two carriages from a bungalow in West Wittering. These were an LBSCR Stroudley five compartment 3rd No. 992, and a North London Railway 3rd No 106.

The Bluebell has published some interesting photos on its website, showing the recovery and giving a good indication of how such carriages have survived before going on to be restored for traffic service.

See: Bluebell Railway - Recovery of Stroudley 3rd No.992

Vintage carriage trust entries for each coach:

LBSCR 992 Stroudley 5-compartment Third (body only) built 1880
NLR 106 Four-wheel Second (body only)

Not yet. Currently we have in service a Stroudley 1st (Bluebell Railway Carriages - LBSCR Stroudley First No.661) and two LCDR Brake 3rds, one of which has been converted to a wheelchair-accessible saloon. (Bluebell Railway Carriages - No.114 and Bluebell Railway Carriages - No.3360).

Currently in the works is an LCDR 5 compartment 3rd, (which will probably be the next one to be completed) (Bluebell Railway Carriages - No.3188) followed by a Stroudley brake 3rd (Bluebell Railway Carriages - LBSCR Stroudley Brake Third No.949). This latter was in very poor condition, but is nearing the end of a very protracted rebuild. Not sure how popular it will be: the seats will be bare boards with half-height partitions; I think we will probably provide cushions!

I'd imagine 992 will probably follow 949 (the Stroudley brake 3rd) but I'm not sure a final decision has been made.

In general, the C&W types seem to be taking about 2 years to restore an LCDR coach, but longer to do the Stroudley ones. I think that is because the LCDR ones, made of Teak, have withstood being grounded better than the Stroudley ones, made of Mahogany. However, 992 looks superficially in good condition and was well-grounded on drained land, so it may prove a bit easier than for example 949 has proved.
