ACQUISITIVE FM Rail has joined forces with Riviera Trains to purchase the business assets of F &W Railtours Limited, which promotes rail tours under the name Pathfinder Tours — this follows the decision by the Directors of F & W Railtours Limited to cease trading.

A new company has been formed called Pathfinder Tours (2006) Limited, which is a joint venture between Riviera Trains and FM Rail.

Pathfinder Tours (2006) Limited has agreed to honour bookings currently accepted by the former company Pathfinder Tours as well as expand and develop its 2006 programme of rail charters and day trips.

Pathfinder Tours operates about 40 charter trains per year. The company, whose origins go back to 1973, provides affordable rail charters aimed at the enthusiast market.

The company also runs a programme of highly successful general interest charters to destinations such as the Eden Project in Cornwall from locations around Great Britain.

Riviera Trains is one of the leading suppliers of coaches and rolling stock to train operating companies and the charter train market. They have a fleet of 170 coaches and 12 diesel locomotives.

FM Rail describes itself as the UK’s leading independent train operating and engineering company, with an operational fleet of 20 locomotives and 60 coaches. Additionally FM Rail can call upon a ‘strategic reserve’ of 50 other locomotives that can be made available at short notice to meet market demands.

    • Recently, FM Rail took over Hertfordshire Rail Tours and launched a new Blue Pullman luxury train service.
