A work colleague told me this morning that he'd passed a 'rusty old steam train' on a low loader between King's Lynn and Fakenham heading east in the last few days. Was this 76084 heading for the NNR (though I'd assume that 76084 would have at least primer on it by now in the final stages of the overhaul)? Couldn't find anything posted on the 76084 or NNR websites about the timing of the move.

From what I can gather it is the Turkish 8f from the NRM Shildon. I don't know any more r.e. agreements whether its just being stored of whether any work will be done at the NNR

    76084 is certainly not rusty!

    This was her in March:

She's not due to arrive at the NNR until 2013.

    Presumably, heading for NNR?

    Interesting!

I didn't think it would be but it was the only candidate for a road move in that direction that I could think of. My colleague wouldn't have known the difference between rusty and not quite finished I'm afraid.

Just found this YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. which suggests that the team restoring 76084 are turning their hand to 45170 next, so my guess is that the plan is to store 45170 on the NNR then do a swap once 76084 is ready to come to it's new home and therefore frees up space in the restoration shed

So, had the 8F been acquired by the NNR? If it's a ten year restoration job, it'll be able to take the B12's place in the fleet when the B12 has it's next overhaul

hmm, two WW2 exports on the NNR.. 90775 (ex Greece) and now the 8F.. will make war time weekends more interesting if they hire an S160 as well.

Had 5197 a few years ago so I guess the connections are there with Mr Wilson

This should be an interesting project. I for one am hoping the NNR keep the air pump. Could be a useful piece of kit for any incoming tours.

It would be very interesting to see it restored either in wartime guise or with all the Turkish features still there, rather than anglicising it like the WD.

The NNR could become the home of wartime events before long..

In my opinion it’s got to be restored to full WW2 livery with every thing still on it and to keep it at NNR for their great 1940’s weekends.

So who actually owns it? The NNR or a private group?

And there is the potential for some very interesting liveries, WD, LMS, BR or how about painting it as an LNER O6?
