The Ribble Steam Railway is holding a steam gala event this weekend, 12th & 13th September.

The gala will feature three steam locomotives: Andrew Barclay 0-4-0ST 1147 'John Howe' of 1908, Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0ST 3155 'Walkden' of 1944, and the Furness Railway Trust's Hunslet 0-6-0ST 3794 'Cumbria' dating from 1953, late of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway and making its first visit to another railway since it was preserved.

For the first time, the RSR will be running demonstration freight trains alongside the passenger services, with a more intensive timetable being the result!

The timetable will be the same for both days, and is expected to be as follows:

All times given are departure times from Preston Riverside.

    11:00 Passenger - 'Cumbria' & 'Walkden', top & tail
11:40 Passenger - 'John Howe' & 'Cumbria' double heading, with 'Walkden' tailing
    12:20 Freight - 'John Howe' & D2148, top & tail
    13:00 Passenger - 'Cumbria' & 'Walkden', top & tail
