Just had the ticket for this, so it seems 46233 is now cleared for use. Haven't seen RTT for timings yet, so not sure what route will be actually taken on the outward journey.

If that's the case re 46233 its possible only actually WCR owned / managed locos affected by the prohibition.

It usually goes out via Spalding and Sleaford, returning via Newark and the ECML.

That's the route I'm hoping for, but I don't think 46233 has run that way before, so I'm bracing myself for an out and back via Newark Northgate due to gauging. I hope I'm wrong...

That will involve turning the loco and they've not done that before on a Lindum Fayre job. Other tours have turned though.

"We have great pleasure in confirming that we will be steam hauled throughout by 46233 Duchess of Sutherland".

    Times per my ticket:-
    09.08 London Kings Cross 21.51
    09.34 Potters Bar 21.17
    09.58 Stevenage 20.51
    11.25 Peterborough 19.40
    12.49 (arr.) Lincoln 17.27 (dep.)

Outward times are identical to last year's equivalent trip (06/12/2014) which went out via Spalding.
Return times for Stevenage, Potters Bar and King's Cross are also the same as last year.
But dep from Lincoln is earlier (17.27 vice 17.45) and arrival back at Peterborough later (19.40 vice 19.07)
Maybe plan is to take water in the yard north of Peterborough alongside Eastfield box?
Ticket indicates 10 coaches, so with the kitchen car and POB I'm expecting 12 in all.
Really hoping it will be 100% steam with no added diesel.

I haven't got a gradient profile for Peterborough-Lincoln via Spalding, but apart from the drag out of London (nothbound) and Stoke bank (southbound), I imagine the line is generally a bit of a pancake in places. 46233 managed 12 on the North Eastern last month without anything on the back.

It gets annoying to see that statement on RTC letters. "We have great pleasure in confirming that we will be steam hauled throughout ...." was on my friend's letter for the Christmas Cheshireman... If there's a steam engine on the front is fits their definition it would appear. Can only think of one reason to have a box on Saturday and that's for train heating; but as it's supposed to be a mild wet weekend so you should get a proper steam hauled train Sean. Hope so.

North of Huntingdon you have Abbotts Ripton bank. Not a Shap by any means and the northbound climb will be taken at speed. Southbound though the climb starts pretty much as soon as you leave the Connington water stop so it gives the loco something to do.

Has any steam tour arrived at Lincoln from the East and gone back the same way after loco has turned on the triangle?

My only previous steam trip to Lincoln was with 35028 from KGX, out and back via Newark. Diesel was added to back at Newark to facilitate turning whole train at Lincoln, then left behind at Newark on way back.

With load 12 Stoke was cleared at 67mph on way out and 60ish on way back.

Just seen an image on Facebook of The Duchess at Rugby, looked as if it was earlier this afternoon, facing towards London. Looking forward to going on her next Saturday to York.

Edit: Just located the path on OpenTrainTimes: http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/U59832/2015-12-03

Still itching for an A4, Duchess or Tornado to have another crack at the 68 minute schedule for the 76 miles from Peterborough to KGX set for 6233 on the Talisman in 2005. That was brave pathing indeed! Unfortunately, priming on the climb to Abbots Ripton and checks at the finish put paid to keeping time.

As far as gradients are concerned this would be an ideal route for Tangers, provided it could get up Holloway.

She's climbed it before without undue fuss.

I am sure she has, shame I wasn't there. If there was a problem there would be help nearby in the form of the diesel that brought the stock in left behind at the buffers.

New steam track for me on Saturday after Werrington as my previous trip with a Brit was diesel assisted.

Looks like its booked via the Sleaford avoider.

Enjoyed a pretty reasonable sprint over the ECML behind 34067 in February. Wasn't on it from KGX, but was reliably informed that it stormed Holloway.

46233 has just drawn the empty stock out of Ferme Park. Standard class at the front by the looks of things. No idea what the diesel on the back is, the new Hornsey wash plant is in the way!
