The last time I saw a Britannia at Lenton South Junction was in the summer of 1967 when 70026 Polar Star appeared totally unexpectedly on a parcels train from the Trent direction. Half an hour later it re-appeared, light engine, being turned on the Mansfield Junction – Lenton North Junction – Lenton South Junction triangle and headed back towards Trent. So when I realised that 1Z61 “The Palatine” special charter from London Victoria to Sheffield was both booked for a Britannia, was booked Midland Main Line but was not booked via Toton but was booked to use the Trowell branch then Lenton South Junction seemed to be the logical place to view its passage.
As always feedback and comments welcome
