It has been some time since I made a posting on our progress in our little county so here we go.
Work is comencing on a shark brake van to be converted to passenger use by the owner, its to replace the DMU car we have at the moment as it looks huge compared to the industrials we use here.

The iron ore hopper train currently stands at 5 vehicles of 7, the other two are requiring work so are on display only in the wagon sidings, we hope to have 1 of the 2 operational by end of the year and have been cleaning it up today ready for axles to come out and new bearings, axleboxes and oil pads put in. Also a full overhaul of the brake rigging and new brake blocks. The other hopper out is I believe the unique SHEEPBRIDGE iron ore hopper which has a broken spring collar and needs a repaint in the near future.

We also have a rake of 9 iron ore tipplers including 2 vac fitted examples. these are used along with the hopper rake on open days, these are all in a 'weathered condition' i.e. they run as they are! very nice though!

We have received a low mac for boiler storage as we seem to be falling over them at our place at the mo!

There are some pics on our new web site but want too put some newer ones on here so will update shortly! =P~

Actually please can you resize them so that they are viewable!

See the photographic section for links to various free software that can do this. If you need any help please ask.

    Thanks
    Ben

Have continued to work on the hoppers at our place and hope to have her ready for use in our demostration rake soon, just a small matter of lifting the thing off its axles and replacing the boxes, one day!!! still plenty to be getting on with, have rostered 5 hoppers and tipplers for this weekend for some variety although only have a single break van at present... maybe time too look at the two BR standards in our siding again....................!

Are the brake vans not ex Ashington though? Far more credibility then!

Back again! Have today surveyed all the vehicles on site and its time for a big shunt!! Every few years we seem to end up in a jumble and so a new look to our wagon sidings is to take place and make a more authentic veiwing area.

The hopper that is under major overhaul is to be lifted on sunday for a complete set of new axle boxes, oil pads, bearings etc then she is to get a full repaint in to unfitted (as she has no vaccume) BR grey with correct markings. with any luck she will be added to the rake for the first time next season after she has run in and been passed fit for use in the demo train.

On another note is there any of you good fellows who have been involved with a PMV/Tube wagon conversion in to passenger stock before or who know anybody who has undertaken such a task? We currently operate a DMU body but are changing to brake vans as they are more in keeping with our stock, but am looking for somthing better for the future, ideas welcome!

Hi mate, if you want to resize your pics there is an easy way of doing it.
Open them up in mspaint, then go to 'image' on the top menu, then 'stretch/skew' then just enter something like 60 in the horizontal and vertical boxes, it should resize the pic evenly. Save it with a different name and re-upload :)

Have had an odd day on sunday! Spent the day with a pressed man lifting a 21 ton iron ore hopper off one of its wheel sets.... to replace the axle boxes.... which we did........ but the wheel set will not go back in.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looks as though this wagon has had a bit of an accident in its past as the W iron is bent 3 inches out at the bottom!!! could not notice it with the other axle boxes fitted and is probably the cause of it running hot all the time... will keep you all updated on how we get on!! ](*,) ](*,) :-k

The 'W' iron will have a hole in it for spragging the wheel, you could get a good long piece of sturdy threaded bar, or threaded bar welded to a pole etc, and gradually wind the thing back in using an open ended spanner and a scaffold bar on the nut? That's if you don't have the time or means of taking the 'W' iron off? Once the axlebox is back in it shouldn't be much of a problem.

Cheers P&JR sounds like a plan, we where going to heat it up and jack it back but your idea sounds a better bet, we could have taken the W iron off but unfortunatly we had all our spare ones stolen 3 months ago!! have been cleaning up the under keeps tonight and look a little tiedier? for it. we will figure it out!!!!! #-o

You could still heat it I guess. Might need quite a bit of heat for something with that much surface area mind
