1975 those of us who arrived early were allowed to remain on the platform of Shildon station and fares there were not exhorbitant. There was a designated viewing area, but you were also free to try and view the cavalcade from elsewhere if you wished.
2000 there were plans for a 175 Cavalcade, but fell through.
Special trains to Darlo were charging more than normal service trains.
An expensively priced grand stand would be errected or for those who couldn't afford those seats a field would be made available to stand in. Too bad if you weren't in the front two rows!
It was actually published that private security guards would be employed to move on anyone stopping on overbridges to photo the event.
Given that, will there be a S&D 200 in 14 years time?

The strange thing was that the grandstand was located on the wrong side for photography and shots of the cavalcade were in to the sun. Those of us in the standing only area had the benefit of the light. Being only 10 I managed to get to the front by the fence and took some of my best ever pictures.
