Received ticket and 'times' for this today. It's a 6.40 approx start from New Street but looks like a good length lay over in Carlisle. No confirmation of times on either VT web site or on here yet. Looks like a late arrival back too. Good job the pubs stay open late Saturday! It's fully booked apparently, which is good news. Must be a few forum members on this.

It has been fully booked for some time, I was aiming to go on it with friends but even some few weeks ago there was only premier dining seats left, then when i called a couple of days later they were gone as well... Oh well I guess it's off to Shap again....

Usual Shap weather, blowing a gale with horizontal rain, slipped several times in my view, we'll see what the video has caught. Getting it organised now.

bright sunny weather at carnforth, she set of on time leaving a cloud of sweet smelling black smoke, caught it just north of carnforth with seconds to spare, hence wobbly video on U-tube.

6115 was running a few minutes early as it crested Shap summit. Weather was a mix of gale force westerly winds, heavy rain, and hail!. Within a minute after SG had passed, the sun came out.
Only one or two got the picture of the day as 6201 passed 6115 within Citadel station.
Scots Guardsman left Carlisle on time in glorious sunny weather: For the record, 6201 was also an on-time arrival.

Message from on the train said that they crested the summit at 33mph, having slipped several times on the climb. Whoever was driving did not waste any time getting the regulator wide open again.

Scots Guardsman at Preston 9 May 2009

On a day when four Class 7 and 8 locomotives of LMS ancestry were out on the main line in the North of England, I could only manage a short outing. The priority had to be to spend more time with David Smith's magnificent Rebuilt Scot No 46115 Scots Guardsman, as it awaited departure from Preston with the Vintage Trains 'Scot over Shap' charter to Carlisle and back. The morning was fine and sometimes sunny, in complete contrast to the wild weather lying ahead of the train on the high fells.
