I am trying to trace any photos that anyone may have of signalman at Scout Green box from around the 40s and 50s . My late father Robert ( Bob ) Thompson worked the box at times so it would be nice to see him at work . Thanks in advance .

Stephen - Afraid I cannot help re your father, but there is a very short 1964 clip taken inside the box in a DVD 'Landscapes of steam vol 6: Cumbria', available from Transport Video Publishing.

The DVD also has a clip of a ride up Shap on a 2-6-4T banker.

    HTH a bit

Thanks for the photos , I think the first one would be about the right time as dad had to climb the tall signal on the left of the photo . Steve

Many a happy Saturday afternoon/evening spent in the Scout Green box in the mid 50s. Then the night sleeping in the car just across the crossing. Unfortunately the only name I remember is Mr Slatterthwaite... and no pictures I'm afraid.

My father was there during the 1960's as the motorway worked it's way North and we have stills and cine from those days. Long after the dates you requested but nice images all the same.

If I recall correctly, there's some really good footage of the box in operation on the Ivo Peters video 'Volume three: Westmorland 1965/67' and so not quite the right era, Steve?
