The Railway has just announced that their Gala shall be on these dates.
SRR 34053, LWSR 30120, & Webb Coal tank 7799 are the Current guest locomotives attending.
I understand there are going to be
further visiting guest locomotives yet to be announced.

Good line up for starters, wonder if there was any place these 3 locos could ever have met?

Good start to the line up, I've wanted to see the T9 for a while but Bodmin is out of reach for most on a day trip, is there any chance 34027 will be ready by then ? if so i have a hunch they'll go for a Southern theme, either the Bluebell or Mid Hants U Boat woulden't go amiss.

34027 has a fair chance. It's all dependent on when we get the boiler back from South Devon really. It'll be tight though. It'd be lovely to have two LP's running together at the gala, although i'm sure we'll have plenty of chances afterwards to get Taw and Sir Keith acquainted. I'd like to see a U on the valley too, but it wouldn't surprise me if this ends up being the completed line up, perhaps with one addition.

By september we should have a home fleet of 43106, 4566, 5164, 7812, 2857, 1501 (first gala back in traffic), 42968 (possible final appearance on current ticket) & 34027 (possibly). I'd expect 42968 to play a fairly big part assuming its fit, likewise for 1501 & 34027. Add the coal tank, 30120 and 34053 to that, i'd say you've got a line up!

I'd very much like to see a U or S15 on the Valley, just right for the line from an operations perspective.

I'd have thought it unlikely 34027 would be ready, all efforts will be on 1501 this year. A 'U' or S15 would be an excellent addition.

I'm giving this gala some serious consideration now that there is no SD railtour from Glasgow to Aberdeen on that weekend. The addition of the U class is the icing on the cake, and it should prove quite a good runner on the line. If 34027 does get completed in time, then that would surely represent the marzipan decorative objects on top!

Ahh fantastic stuff. I do like the U's so it'll be a highlight for me to experience 31806 from an operational POV. As was said earlier in the thread...if we can get Taw Valley out in time to feature it really would be perfection.

Nice one SVR getting a U boat in, when someone has a Southern themed event, it usually means a succession of Bulleid Pacifics, with the exception of the S15 on the Moors, anything from Maunsell/Urie up north is very rare.

    So, it's currently looking like:

    T9 30120
    U 31806
WC 34027 (if finished and run-in in time)
    BB 34053
    'Coal Tank' 7799
    4MT 43106
    5MT 42968
    45xx 4566
    5101 5164
    78xx 7812
    28xx 2857
    15xx 1501 (if operational)

Any selection out of that lot would be pretty good, but the number of Southern attendees makes this something special. If the WSR do something as good at their S&D event this autumn, then I'll be one happy bunny (have to see when the MHR 'Maunsell gala' is too)!

1501 will be in service by then. Fire in the firebox today and steam test planned for the next couple of days according to SVR official twitter. It's looking like a very impressive line up.

Note that 42968's current boiler ticket expires on the 31st September this year, so this event will be the mogul's last gala for some time.

    31st September Andy? :-D

Presumably 813 is not expected out by then?

Yep, we added an additional day to the month just to really squeeze the last usage out of the mogul ;)

As for 813, I don't think the boiler is far from completion, but i'm not sure how much work is required still on the frames and platework. I think it will be pushed aside slightly first by the push to complete 1501 and then for Taw. We can but hope though!

Bringing this more update as it is less than 9 weeks now:
    34053 is being run in.
1501 is nearly finished, a couple of weeks from what I've heard.
34027 is likely to be next year.
42968 has had its boiler ticket extend to January, so hopefully it can run at Christmas.
Evening tickets are also available, a list of times for validity is on the SVR website.

I might be visiting this gala. I'm thinking of doing Lizzies tour from Euston on September 22nd and it has the option of disembarking at Kidderminster for the gala. Sadly it'll only be a round trip or so though.

For those who may be interested, BBLS will be running a photo charter with 31806 on 15th October. The theme will be the DN&S in the late 50s when U-Boats worked the line complete with its GWR signals. PM me for further details.
