A return to the line too for "Chaffinch" which was worked on and repainted by SVR C&W.

Steam Rly Mag saying a West Country theme has been adopted, with guest locos to be 1450 + Autotrain / 47298 / 80072 / 34007.

    The rest of the line-up will be made up from the home fleet which will be any of 1501 / 2857 / 4566 / 5164 / 7812 / 34053 / 43106.

The WSR have just taken the arrival of 178, so surely it's not attending the SVR gala?

Nothing on SVR website yet about that, but the Jinty is no longer coming.

Is the jinty likely to be replaced with another visiting engine ?

Website says 'Further information follows shortly' so could be (and probably anyway).

Looking forward to the announcement of the replacement engine. Would love to see 73129 at the gala. It would fit in beautifully with the S&D theme.

Would certainly fill the Severn Valley with sound. A real beast is 73129. :)

    All

I notice that they are running train with the observation saloon at the gala so this is going to mean there is going to be at least one longer set in operation as i can not imagine that a standard coach will be removed from a set to accomodate it. I assume this will mean one train being 9 coaches long.

73129 has been dropped from the lineup for the North Norfolk gala on the previous two weekends "due to a defect on the locomotive" so is probably unlikely to available for the SVR gala.

At recent galas, the observation saloon has run on the GW set, taking the rake up to 8 coaches long.

    Thanks,
    Lewis

also the transport costs of 73129 would be at least twice of those of 47298 and the question then arises , would it generate additional ticket sales to offset the costs ?

Therefore, the organisers of this gala will have a certain part of their budget that was allocated to hiring a jinty. So, I'd hazard a guess at them looking for another jinty, or a tank engine that will cost somewhere near the same to transport in.

Like you say with the standard 5, it is big money for 2 low loaders. If they'd wanted that, it would be one of the star visitors, rather than as a side show to supplement the other locos attending.

I do suspect 73129 would bring in twice as many people as a jinty! I'm sure the maths isn't that simple, but nonetheless...

I'm going to make a different suggestion - why not something industrial? (Yes, RH No.6, your presence reminded me). As far as I can recall, there hasn't been an industrial visitor to the SVR in a long long time. This is of course discounting engines that spent some time in industrial service, such as 813 and TVR No.28. It'd be different...

Would have to be something that's happy to sit at 25mph for a few miles (without the fireman collapsing), but that does sound good! Austerity for Bewdley or Arley shuttles?
