    Hi all -

Last week, I called in at Shillingstone whilst driving through Dorset - purely on impulse (after seeing the 'station open today' sign - how many of us have done that?). If you are passing through the area, I can reccomend a visit - a very friendly outfit, with charming volunteers.

The signalbox recreation is great, complete with a lit Tilley lamp gently swinging in the breeze at the box entrance. The shop is a gold-mine if you like second-hand railway books etc, and the Ruston 88 outside looked immaculate in S&DJR Prussian blue.

Another pleasant surprise was finding 9017 "Earl Of Berkley" out in the carpark, on the back of an Antells lorry, overnighting en route back to the Bluebell.

Thanks to any Shillingstone volunteers reading this - reccomended to anyone in the area this Summer.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

    Phil,
many thanks for your comments. much appreciated and glad you enjoyed your visit. Hopefully the interior of the box should be complete within a month so we can concentrate on installing a few semaphore signals. Our main focus over the last few weeks has been making sure the drainage is right before we start our tracklaying in earnest.
    All the best,

    Ralph
