Shortlist announced for Danish electrification project

Denmark’s rail infrastructure manager, Banedanmark, has published the names of five companies shortlisted to complete a major electrification of the country’s rail network.

The national electrification programme will first see a 57-kilometre stretch of railway between Esbjerg and Lunderskov electrified, followed by Køge Nord-Naestved, Naestved-Ringsted Rodby and a new railway between Copenhagen and Ringsted.

An additional €1.7 billion has also been made available through the Togfonden funding model to electrify the Fredericia and Aalborg, Aalborg to Frederikshavn, Vejle Struer and Roskilde Kalundborg lines.

The shortlist includes:

• Aarsleff Siemens
• ASB Consortium
• Consortium Strukton & Balfour Beatty
• EIS Joint Venture
• JV Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL) – TSO

Banedanmark area manager Søren Laursen Thorpstrup said: “We are very pleased that we now have five strong bidders who all have very current references from similar projects, also in terms of delivering on time and price. Providing the best opportunities that we get a sharp competition and good deals.”

The winning bidder will be named in spring 2015.
