Siemens and VINCI to build new metro line for Rennes

Siemens has been awarded a €178 million turnkey contract to deliver a second automated metro line for the French city of Rennes.

The project will see Siemens France supply 19 two-car rubber-tyred Citval trains, as well as install all of the automation, track, electrification and communications systems.

Line B will include 15 new stations and cover 12.6 kilometres from the south-west corner of the city in St Jacques Gaité to the north-east in Cesson-Viasilva, with the majority of the line set to operate through tunnels.

VINCI Construction, alongside French contractors Spie Batignolles TPCI, Spie Fondations and Legendre Génie Civil, will carry out 8 kilometres of tunnelling works, as well as building nine of the new stations.

Commissioning of Line B is estimated to be complete by the end of 2019.

Both VINCI and Siemens built the city’s Line A.
