Siemens to build Gurgaon Metro extension

Siemens is to build a seven kilometre extension to the automated Gurgaon Metro in India.

The extension will see six new stations built in the south east of the city to add to those already constructed as part of the system’s first phase.

The project, which is worth around 70 million euros, was awarded to Siemens by IL&FS Rail Ltd.

“The Gurgaon metro project is a first of its kind in India; the first phase is close to completion,” said Sanjiv Rai, chief executive of IL&FS Rail Ltd.

“We are confident that this project will become a benchmark in the public transportation sector.

“Hence we have chosen to partner with Siemens, based on our good experiences on the ongoing project and their globally proven technologies.”

Siemens will supply seven new metro trains for the new route, as well as install signalling and train control systems.
