We’re after volunteers to fill a number of posts around the Welsh Highland Railway (Porthmadog). Some of these can be done from home without the need to come to Wales. If you would like to know more, contact Chris Dearden - ChrisD by PM (no spaces between the Chris and the D or you'll get someone else!

** SHEDMASTERS – we’re looking for people to help out in the museum when trains are running, making sure that people are safe, answering questions and keeping the place tidy. You don’t have to be an expert on the history of the railway, or any of the objects – full training is provided!

** WEBSITE UPDATERS – this is a job that can be done from the comfort of your own home. We desperately need people to help keep our websites up to date and looking impressive. You don’t need any previous knowledge of working with websites, the software we use is relatively simple, and we’ll show you how to use it. We’re particularly interested in hearing from anyone with experience in graphic design.

** MEDIA ASSISTANTS – we need people to help improve our communication with the media and the railway press. Could you help by writing short news releases about what’s happening at the railway? We also need someone to take charge of sending them out, a relatively simple job, but one which will make life easier for our overworked Commercial Department. This job can be done from home, and again, we’ll give you all the training you need for either role.

** HEALTH & SAFETY VOLUNTEERS – we urgently need people to help with the ever increasing Health & Safety workload. This could include writing method statements and risk assessments, and doing various checks on site. This work is vital to keeping the railway running: can you help?

** LOCOMOTIVE MANAGER – Our Acting Locomotive Manager, Andy Blackwell, has had to step down because of the pressures of his paid job. We need someone to take charge of maintenance and overhaul of our steam and diesel locomotive fleet, and co-ordinate volunteers in the department. Sound mechanical engineering knowledge is essential for this role.

If you’d like to know more, contact Chris Dearden (details above).
