Come and join the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway for a weekend celebrating the reason for the narrow Gauge railways in North Wales. With THREE confirmed Quarry Hunslet visitors this will be a special weekend to visit the WHHR. An intensive timetable will be in operation with both passenger and freight trains taking to the main line, at least three locos in steam (subject to the usual caveats)

We would like to thank Henry Noon at Statfold Barn for allowing us to borrow STATFOLD and JACK LANE for this event. This will be the first time STATFOLD has run on the WHHR while JACK LANE was last seen on the line back in 2008. It will be exciting to see over 100 years of Hunslet's loco building traditions with both these locos being being almost exactly 100years the junior of the WHHR's own Hunslet loco RUSSELL.

BRITOMART makes a third quarry Hunslet visitor, with grateful thanks to Rob and FR for allowing this to happen.

If you have a live steam model of a quarry locomotive, or a traditionally built wooden hulled boat, which you would like to be on display at the event please send me a personal message and we will arrange for you to be involved. Equally if you have a 2' gauge Hunslet and would like to be involved please get in touch...;)

Most likely a March open day so the chances are it was quite cold, at least it was not the march one in the snow.

I am excited to announce a Third Quarry Hunslet in the shape of BRITOMART will be joining STATFOLD and JACK LANE at the WHHR for the Slate, Steam and Sail weekend.

The current timetable sees all three hauling slate wagons solo, both the SBR locos will double head with BRITOMART on the slate wagons, and both JACK LANE and STAFOLD will solo haul and double head on passenger trains throughout the day, it is likely that GERTRUDE will also be in steam both days hauling passenger trains solo and paired with both SBR locos at times. All in this maybe the most intensive working schedule the WHHR has seen. Trains run from 10.30-5.00pm Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to Three visiting Quarry Class Hunslets for our Slate Steam and Sail event, on the Saturday we will be hosting a book signing.

Ever wondered what it's like to drive a steam locomotive?

On Saturday the 11th, Andrew Charman, editor of Narrow Gauge World magazine and a leading figure from the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway in mid Wales will be visiting the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog to sign copies of his new book 'Steam Locomotive Driver's Manual'.

This extensive work explains everything you need to know from cleaning, coaling, stoking, watering, lubricating and driving steam locomotives.

Reading the book is one thing; do you fancy trying out the footplate of a steam locomotive for real? On the 11th and 12th July you can ride on the footplate of a locomotive between Porthmadog and Pen-y-Mount and back. *Additional fee applies.

Only a few weeks to go.

There will also be a presence from the Porthmadog Maritime museum and on Sunday a slate splitting demonstration.
