    Evening All,

I'm never quite sure whether messages regarding South Africa should be posted to the International or Narrow Gauge forums as they qualify under both headings! However, although not preservation related, I have put some more of my pictures from a 1972 visit On Flickr; these are of both 3'6 and 2' gauge lines. All steam of course in those days!

Anyway, if anyone would like to have a look, this is the first picture in the Photostream. Clicking on it will enlarge it and take you to the others :

There still lots of pictures awaiting scanning, so I hope that they are of interest.

    Morning All,

I have now added a further batch of pictures from my 1972 tour of South Africa to Flickr. These include some pictures of the gruelling and tortuous climb over the spectacular Lootsberg Pass. This is the first one in the Photostream :

    Evening All,

The most recent additions to my pictures of South African steam in 1972 are shots taken at De Aar MPD and on the double track main line between De Aar and Kimberley. Needless to say the Class 25 condensing locomotives and the 25NC non-condensing locomotives, both massive 4-8-4s, feature strongly. There are other types as well though. If anyone would like to have a look, this is the first one in the Photostream :

They can also be found in this collection :

Still more to follow in due course. Hope I'm not boring you!

Brings back many memories for me...one, being arrested at Kimberly for photographing the loco yard there.....they thought we were spies...

We were only stopped by the police on one occasion, but once they realized we were from overseas and had gone all that way to see their steam engines they were fine and wished us a good holiday.
