The South Devon Railway has purchased the business of R.K.Pridham Engineering of Tavistock, the well known boiler repair specialists. The staff and equipment will be moved in due course to Buckfastleigh. This will greatly strengthen the railway engineering facilities and services available at Buckfastleigh.

A significant investment by the SDR, and one which keeps boiler and firebox repair skills alive. The railway certainly seems to be going places with their contract work capabilities.

An interesting development, I wonder where they're going to put the stuff - Buckfastleigh doesn't seem to me to be overendowed with space.

My question exactly, but at least it guarantees continuity of operation into the future. Maybe they'll purchase/construct a shed elsewhere in the town.

New extension already being built. There is plenty of space at the Buckfastleigh site.

Combined with the SDR's various wheel related services, this will make the SDR a formidable force in contract overhauls. I can't wait to see this new engineering company take on its first jobs and look forward to it growing further in the future.

Geat to see some in-sourcing for a change. These days in business it seems everything is being contracted out to someone else. Good news for our industrial skills life-blood too.
