Spain’s rail infrastructure manager Adif is to partner with the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering in training specialist staff for Russian Railways (RZD).

The new five-year collaboration builds on an earlier partnership announced in 2008 and will focus heavily on automatic track gauge changing technology pioneered by the Spanish rail sector.

RZD is looking to get rid of the lengthy delays still experienced by passengers on cross-border services in and out of Russia as Russian gauge bogies are swapped for standard gauge units and vice versa.

Announcing the partnership, Adif said: “The new agreement will enable the realization of regular exchanges of delegations, study tours , seminars, technical conferences and meetings.

“The areas of common interest covered by this agreement will be the technology, studies, planning, construction, management, operation and maintenance of the railway infrastructure. It will also work in areas such as human resources, training and safety for both passenger transport infrastructure and freight and both in conventional and high-speed lines.”
