There was some good footage of this railway on a BBC Horizon documentary about the planet Mars on Thursday night. BBC iPlayer - Horizon: 2012-2013: Mission to Mars.
Go to about 44 mins in.
The river is very hostile to life, but is full of bacteria. The presenter rode on the railway, and walked past abandoned wagons etc. At least one scrap loco was seen in the background. Worth a look.
