The Spanish government has approved the construction of a 55km high-speed train test track near Malaga.

The ring railway, which will become part of a new rail research centre in Antequera, will include tunnels and a viaduct to simulate the kind of structures found throughout Spain’s high-speed rail network.

Around 386 million euros will be spent on the new facilities, which will allow trains to reach speeds of 450 km/h.

The centre and test track will be delivered by public-private partnership, with a private consortium taking on the economic benefits and risks of the site’s construction and operation.

In a press announcement, minister said that more than 40 of the companies consulted by infrastructure manager ADIF showed an interest in the project.
