    Here we go...

Leaving York around the Wakefield loop:

    1. Copmanthorpe
There are a few shots around this area... Depending on the engine etc... the engine may still be working here. I know 44871 was last year.

    2. Colton Junction
I'm sure plenty of shots have been done here. Crews can be enthusiastic here.

    2a. Brumber Bridge
Engines are usually working still from York, the light is best on the evening run when taking the train from the bridge.

Available from the Nature Reserve, I never knew this shot was here until last year. Both 44932 and 5690 were working when I saw them last year.

Some fab shots are available if you manage to get them going through Platform 1. Quite a lot of the time last year was on P3, which made them slow. Some nice sun light on an evening.

The car park is now open at the side of the line, it's decent for video although I wouldn't recommend for stills. The light is on the correct side of the engine for the morning departure. It was 60 pence per hour during Summer 2011.

    49. Arrival into York Station
I don't have anything online of it arriving back into York Station, but is quite nice.

Hope this helps a little. The best places in my opinion to see and hear the engine working are Outwood and Stourton.

Shouldn't this all be in the Photography section and leave this section clear for actual news of the trains?

Excellent work Simon. I'm sure all those who are unfamiliar with the route of the SSE will find your list most useful.

Agreed, that is a very comprehensive list Simon, thanks for taking the time and trouble to compile it.

A quality piece of lesson planning Simon. I've been wondering how to get a shot at Kirkthorpe.

Glad its been of some use to people.

The shot I took at Kirkthorpe is behind a fence and you can only get the 1 person there... Or 2 if you go over the top of them.

A lot of people seem to stand at the other side of the crossing which is tresspassing as they have to pass the gate to clear the trees.

Just to add to my original locations... The speed restriction at Burton Salmon has been lifted... Also someone said that all Scarborough Steam services will depart from York on Platform 4 after a recent risk assessment.

Also Point 32 at South Milford is no good from that angle anymore due to an overgrown tree. You can still do the shot looking straight down the line but it's not a personal favourite.

Hope you've found the guide of some use this year. I've updated my initial post with more locations I've found this year in red.
