On Sunday 13th February the Preservation Trust was pleased to welcome the 5000th recorded visitor to St Albans South box. The lucky visitor was 10year-old Alexander Darlington from St Albans, who had been brought along by his dad.

Besides the Edmundsen card ticket bearing the 5000 number, Alexander was given a certificate to mark the occassion, along with two of the limited edition '00' wagons made especially for the box. He was also allowed to work the lever frame as part of a personal demonstration of the restored signalling equipment.

It is worth noting that the initial feasibility study into the potential restoration of the box reckoned we would do well if we got 500 people a year to visit the box - we're averaging over 2000 a year, which is very pleasing! Since January we've already seen over 700 visitors this year.

Our next Open Afternoon is March 13th from 2-5pm - full details on the newly refurbished website http://www.sigbox.co.uk - do come and see us.
