    As well as the SBR's amazing Enthusiast Days that will take place in 2017, the family-friendly steam weekend will also be returning. May 6th/7th sees the 'Giant Miniature Weekend' take place at the award winning SBR and this is the only event in the calendar aimed at all ages, welcoming families to Statfold Barn.

    The event takes a different format to other SBR events, being set over 2 days and featuring countless road steam examples in various shapes, types and sizes

    Attractions -
    * Over 80 Miniature Traction Engines and Steam Lorries in steam
    * Indoor Displays of Toy Steam, Model Engineering, 16mm and Much More Indoors
    * Steam Train Rides on the Statfold Barn Railway (5 engines in steam)
    * Footplate rides available for the short distance at Statfold Jnc High Level Platform
    * Working displays in miniature including Wood Sawing, Threshing, Heavy Haulage
    * Visit the SBR Roundhouse and see the amazing collection of engines from around the world
    * Children's activities
    * Refreshments and Real Ale bar available
    * Full Size Road Locomotives (5 approximately) in steam

    This is a different event to the enthusiasts days, with less in steam on the railway but a wide variety of different attractions on offer in other areas

    Unlike last year the Roundhouse will be open and so the rest of the SBR collection (who are at home at the time of the event of course) will be there to view. The sight of many narrow gauge engines sat around the turntable in the purpose built roundhouse is impressive indeed!

    If you've ever thought "the kids would love this" or "the grandkids would love this" when you've visited Statfold before then this is the event for you!

    Invitations (tickets) are already available through the SBR website at www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk
    Adult tickets are priced at £10, Under 14s at £5 and a Family Ticket (2a+2c) at £25
    As usual with SBR events, all invitations must be ordered in advance

    Many thanks for your time and we hope to see you at the "Giant Miniature Weekend" - a great excuse to bring the entire family for a day out at Statfold Barn! :D

    Tram Update -

    We are pleased to announce that as an additional attraction the 1906-built Tramcar No14, formerly of the Burton & Ashby Light Railway, will be in operation at the "GMW" event. No14 has been restored to a high standard whilst at Statfold and has had a purpose-built tram shed, station and tramway constructed for it to run on! Tram rides will be a new addition to the SBR in 2017 and we are so pleased to be hosting No14 at the "GMW".

    In addition to the tram we are also planning to offer "Driver for a Fiver" with an SBR steam locomotive - an attraction limited to "GMW" only.

    You will be able to catch the steam train or the tram for your journey between Statfold Jnc and Oak Tree Halt, passing several miniature traction engines on route no doubt. The road engine line-up now includes 80+ miniature road steamers and at least 3 full size examples in steam - with perhaps more to come! :D

    Thank you all for your interest. Invitations as always available through www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk and we also have a FB event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/1813090135595958/ for regular updates on additions to the event.

    We hope to see some of you there. If you've ever thought "the kids would love this" or "the grandkids would love this" when you've visited Statfold before then this is the event for you!

    Out of interest what is the age limit on the driver for a fiver? Same goes for the footplate trips.

    Hi there

    Sorry for the late reply. We are just looking into this at present and I will get back to you with an answer

    The chances are that the youngest of our visitors will have the chance to visit the footplate of a locomotive during their day even though they won't be able to take part in the Driver for a Fiver or Footplate Ride attraction for safety reasons

    Thanks

    Hi all

    A quick update from the event which begins 4 weeks Saturday

    Tickets are still very much available at www.statfoldbarnrailway.co.uk . Tickets include the show and unlimited steam train rides.

    We have now agreed the locomotive roster for the 5 SBR engines which will hopefully remain the same now -
    * 0-6-0 Corpet Pannier Tank No 439 of 1884 "Minas De Aller"
    * 0-6-0 Peckett Saddle Tank No 2050 of 1944 "Harrogate"
    * 0-4-2 Hunslet Saddle Tank No 1842 of 1936 "Howard"
    * 0-6-0 Hudswell Clarke No 1172 of 1922 "Alpha"
    * 0-6-0 Hudswell Clarke No 972 of 1912 "Fiji" (Driver for a Fiver/Footplate Rides)*

    As above, the top four engines will be working the passenger service during the event. "Fiji" will be working the 'Driver for a Fiver'* and 'Footplate Rides'* job from Oak Tree to the Balloon Loop on the HL line as this isn't in use during the "GMW". (This is because the upper half of the HL line is used by miniature engines in their hoards!).

    One additional SBR locomotive will be on display in the running shed (over the pit) amongst the stands and model railways but the remainder of the collection will be available to view at the Statfold Barn Roundhouse at Oak Tree Halt.

    On the Tramway, the recently restored Tramcar No14 will be in action offering tram rides*. The Burton & Ashby Light Railway tram is new in 2017 and is a very welcome addition to the event.

    As well as the above we have -
    - Over 80 Miniature Traction Engines In Steam
    - At least 4 Full Size Road Engines
    - Bouncy Castles at Oak Tree*
    - A 5" Live Steam Demonstration Railway at Oak Tree
    - A Miniature Working Area with displays of Wood Sawing etc
    - Catering & Refreshments
    - Indoor displays of Toy Steam, 16mm Live Steam and Model Engineering

    This all ages family event at Statfold Barn offers alot of steam variety with models and miniatures on display in all shapes, types and sizes!

    During Saturday day, Dr Busker will be doing a short performance at Statfold too

    Many thanks all. We look forward to seeing you

    * denotes small extra charge payable
