With the postponement of the "Fab Four" Steam Gala until April 2012 (13th, 14th and 15th for those of you who haven't got it in the diary yet), we thought we would organise a bit of a 'do' with some of the other engines that are currently here at Barrow Hill. Although not in the same league as "Fab Four", we hope it will be a fun and interesting - and not expensive! - day out for families and enthusiasts.

We plan to have B1 1306 Mayflower and Barrow Hill's resident Peckett hauling steam trains on the Springwell Branch, A1 60163 Tornado on display (the engine is undergoing some routine maintenance in the Roundhouse) and the 03 giving brake van rides in the yard. The DPS shed will also be open and visitors will be able to see progress on the overhaul of 55 015 Tulyar and the Baby Deltic project. The cafe and shop will also be open selling compulsory bacon and/or egg butties and mementos of your day out :).

Tickets are available on the day, priced at £5 for adults, £1 for children. The site will be open from 10am to 4pm. We have plenty of on-site car parking. Although we are not running a bus service from Chesterfield station, there is a number 90 bus service operating from Chesterfield town centre. More details on how to find us can be found on our website www.barrowhill.org.

Please note the Roundhouse will NOT be open on 1st October as we are hosting a private function and preparing for Sunday's event.

Hope to see you at the Roundhouse on 2nd October.

Tornado is due to arrive at Barrow Hill any time now - straight up from London and her day's work heading the VSOE Surrey Hills tour - it's been a long day for the support crew but we're looking forward to having the engine with us, especially for the Open Day on Sunday. The weather forecast is looking good and the ice cream van is booked!

Thanks to the wonders of Facebook, we can report that Tornado has arrived safely at the Roundhouse after her marathon day on the VSOE and LE move to Barrow Hill.
