Steam weekend near Prague

I'm heading for the Czech Republic this weekend, where special trains are planned between Prague and the Railway Museum at Lužná u Rakovníka. The main attraction is 'guest' loco 498.104 ('Albatross') borrowed from Slovakia. Other steam locos advertised – 310.072, 354.195, 354.7152, 464.008, 464.102, 477.043, and 534.0323.

Train leaves Praha main station at 08.00 behind 498.104 (464.008 from Kladno at front) for Lužná u Rakovníka Railway Museum arr. 10.05 – pay on train.

Other special trains from Lužná u Rakovníka to Řevničov at 12.30 (534.0323) and 12.40 (354.7 and 354.1) – returning at 13.05 (with all locos) to arrive back at 13.15.

I have not been able to trace times for steam back to Prague on Saturday, but


Luzna station is next to the depot. Convenient service trains leave at 14.21 (via Kladno 15.03 – 15.15), 15.35 direct,16.21 (via Kladno 17.03 – 17.15), 17.35 direct or 18.21(via Kladno 19.03 – 19.15) arriving at Praha Masarykovo at 15.52;16.52;17.52;18.52;19.52.






Sunday 22 June

Steam train (464.102 with 464.008 from Kladno) leaves Praha Masarykovo at 08.08 for Lužná u Rakovníka arr. 10.05. Other special (498.104) leaves Lužná u Rakovníka at 13.17 for Zátec 14.05 – 14.38, back at Lužná u Rakovníka arr. 15.28. Then back to Praha (464.102), leaving Lužná u Rakovníka at 16.02 and back at Praha Masarykovo 17.34.

I'm currently in Austria, and on my way to Luzna (can't find accented characters on my laptop), hoping to do a recce on Friday. Look out for a filthy black-ish Ford Mondeo (UK Reg) if you would like to do some linesiding (or are you mobile, too?).

A few fots posted in haste from my laptop, whilst sitting in the car on the loading ramp at Luzna after the event (quality control lacking!). As usual with these eastern European events, the Slovaks’ 498 104 stole the show.

Thanks for sharing those excellent photos. I believe that I saw your car amongst the parked cars at Reznikov station on Sunday - I was on the steam train back to Prague.

It was a well run gala and as my first encounter with Czech steam I was more than satisfied. The climb out of Prague both days was a high point as was the turntable parade. The event was superb value for money, and clearly the organisers put a lot of effort into it. I hope to return next year. old Not least because of the sensible non-hysterical approach to elfansafety. It was great not to be treated as a five year old, as happens in Britain.
