Now that is something! I must send that to a friend here in Italy who built a Big Boy but decided on LPG as he could not find a suitable way of coal firing. Although Alberto's version is 5" so even smaller.

I have not driven the Big Boy yet round there but have taken other locos round and had a couple of mine in steam there. Last time our kids stripped Alberto's cherry orchard of about 30lbs of cherries so we are not sure if we are still welcome..

Very nice - similar attention to detail as on the 5" gauge GT3 that actually operates just as the original did! I was gobsmacked when it started up at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition!

Sorry to have highjacked this thread but just in case you have some money burning a hole in your pocket the Big Boy is for sale.

Oh if only! You can imagine the conversation "Hi dear, I've just bought a model loco ....... but ... errr .... we're gonna need a considerably larger garden ...... "

The construction page looks really impressive, but I can't get google to translate it ?

Sheff, just look at the pictures... I can translate any small bits but I am not going to sit there and translate the build log..
Alberto had his own business making precision instruments for medical applications so his background shows through in his approach to the build. Above all else I can confirm that he is one of life's really nice guys along with the rest of his family. For years they put on an open house for all live steamers and would accept nothing in return.

Thanks Adrian, I wasn't looking for you to translate, just wondered if he had the page in English, or whether there's a better online translator available. I do have a tame Italian over here as a last resort ;) Iain

I use this one, don't know if it's any better though http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/

Just tried it and it does work, but it gets better results if you split it up into chunks rather than try the whole lot in one go.
