"Diaries at the Ready" Time Again ........

Yes, the South's biggest Diesel Gala (probably) is getting itself sorted for a start on Friday, 7th May until Sunday, 9th May. Incoming cavalcade via Eastleigh is scheduled for Thursday 6th May as per usual.

Much too early to confirm Visitor line-up of course but it looks like a broad mixture, of New Types and Old Favourites, is being sourced for your delectation and delight !!!!

We're unsure, at the moment, about the exact location of the Beer Festival as the normal location is currently part of a building site ! The new [much larger] Village Hall at Harmans Cross may well not be finished by then (due to Winter weather, etc.) so alternate plans are being formulated.

Accommodation can be a problem, with Swanage filling up quickly, so reserve your B&B, camp site, or whatever as soon as you can. More reminders nearer the time.

Pray for fine weather and hopefully you'll enjoy your visit.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for the heads-up. That's definitely one for my diary, then. :)

My partner & I visited the SR for the first time at the 2009 gala* (I'm a CAMRA member and was a lapsed rail photographer, so I was testing the water a little at this event!). Needless to say, we'll be there again for the event next year - and I'm now also an SR member.

Shall be there Saturday afternoon until End of play Sunday probably. B&B currently being saught. First visit to Swanage for a diesel gala, though I'm more interested in the tent at the side of the railway...

Let's hope there's no Hydraulics [requiring 2 hours of pre-heating?] booked onto the 07:30 departure !! I need my 'beauty' sleep.

16 1/2 hour day on Friday and Saturday - you're spoiling us Lewisb06. Do we get a chance to go on Church parade on Sunday?

    Thanks for all your patience.
Just to quell any murmurings of anxiety - details of our 'probable' diesel line up should be appearing shortly.
It looks like a 'large blue-ish' event but should prove interesting nonetheless.
Once again, more details in the very near future.

I am hopefully coming to this gala (This Year!!) as I find 37518 is always a BEAST when hauling trains!!

But I would also like a photo of 73119 hauling 4 Vep 3417 on a Preserved Line & I also LOVE the Class 33's there also!!

    Should be a GREAT gala!!

Visiting from Stockport ( Near Manchester)

Hope you do manage to come down to our neck of the woods and enjoy the friendly atmosphere.
You seem to like Rail Blue and Large Logo Blue so you should have plenty of subjects upon which to photograph/video!

Great to see that 33035 will be there. Just ashame that she wasn't repainted back in to NSE colours again.

Lewisb06 - Creating a blog ?!! Where did all this spare time come from ......

We mustn't disappoint our readers, however, by not keeping them up-to-date with developments on the coal face ....
Your co-organiser's attempts to get arrangements sorted out to allow 37518 to have a trip to the Seaside have all been to no avail! Not sure what the technicalities are - but, basically, it's not coming!
Cue arrival of "Gala Man" to get 37264 booked from Tyseley's tender care.
The line-up, as at today is :
    HOME FLEET : 08436/33103/33111
    VISITORS : 31271/33035/37264/47580/50026/56101/73119/4VEP No. 3417

How does that line-up grab you? I think our traction organiser has done another marvellous job of getting a good mix of locos for your delectation and delight. His co-organiser now has the unenviable task of writing the WTT for NINE main line engines.
Oh, and we'll have quite a lot of beer, cider, wines, etc. for sale too - but that's organised by somebody else!
    Keep praying for fine weather.

It sounds like the organisers have done a fantastic job again, so needless to say I'll be there again this year. A beer in one hand and a camera in the other, LOL.

I should be up in Swanage tomorrow as well, but that's for a different reason - I'd like to learn about what goes on behind the scenes and see if there's anything I can do to help the SR. So if you see a dizzy brunette engineer with a camera bag wandering around that's probably me!
