The Swanage Railway seems busier than ever. The "stay-cation" effect, experienced during 2009, does not yet appear to have worn off.
Yesterday, 29th Aug., saw over 2,800 passengers travelling bringing in record-breaking daily fares income.
With good foresight the Railway planned for three locomotives to be in service on all three days this weekend. Additionally both rakes, regularly rostered with 5 coaches during the peak season, have both been strengthened to the current maximum limit of 6 vehicles. Full and standing has been heard for most trains, during the first two days of this weekend, and today's services so far have been well loaded too.

Further to Peter's post, I understand that the monthly passenger figure for August was 53,835, a new monthly record.

Passenger numbers have only broken 50,000 per month twice before, in August 2006 and August 2009.

Looks like Swanage is now joining the select few at the top of the Preservation Premier League getting over 200,000 visitors pa. Which is good for all of us. Keep up the good work!

I was going to start a new thread, but I'll just tag along on this one if I may.
The Severn Valley have just announced their best ever August figures of some 43000 passengers carried, and now see what was going to be a poor year turning into a respectable one, with a target of around 230,000 passengers. The SVR's GM attributes their August success to some TV advertising, " kids for a quid" throughout August, and their Bank Holiday creation of the "seaside" at Arley. Something the Swanage has at one end of the line anyway!
The SVR was looking at some fairly difficult economy measures including redundances, so maybe these will be mitigated.

Well done to the Swanage and the SVR.
