As an addition to the booked events for this year, the Swanage Railway has added in a further special event to test the waters for future winter events; entitled the 'Winter Warm-Up' on 28 December.

There will be two passenger sets and a freight out, and the locos in traffic are planned to be as follows:-
    • LSWR M7 No.30053
    • SR original Bulleid pacific No.34070 Manston
    • BR Class 33/1 No.33111
    Subject obviously to availability.

Passenger trains will depart every 40 minutes from 10am, and one of the sets will be a dual-heat set enabling 33111 to use its ETH capacity; up to recently a bit of a rarity.

In addition, each loco will get an outing on the freight.

Normal fares apply, and a day rover ticket is £16. Further details will be available on the website shortly, alternatively if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Sounds a great event with a good theme. Just booked on the santa special and looks like we will be back down there on the 28th.

This looks good! Is there any chance to ride in the brake van on the freight?
Will the Milk tank or PMV be on the non ETH set?
Would be great to see the 30053 and 34070 double head as well!

The organising team is meeting on Monday to finalise details for the event; I will update the thread with the outcome regarding carrying passengers on the freight.

As for the PMV or milk tank on the train; the PMV definitely won't be on it as the steam heat pipe is currently blanked off, and this is pretty low down on the list of priorities at present. The milk tank depends whether we go for a 4 or 5-set on this train; I can't see us needing any more than a 4-set to be fair, so will ask the question on Monday.

All sounding good. Didn't realise the milk tank have a steam pipe. It would be nice to have a three set out if it will carry enough. Not convinced by the double header though....

Good move to get a mix of steam and diesel out for this, I'll definitely be down for it.

The milk tank will be on the non-ETH set; we agreed at Monday's meeting that it would only be formed of 4 coaches so there is room for the milk tank and still being able to run round at Swanage; the ETH set will be 3 coaches.

Afraid there is no double heading planned though; with 3 locos for 3 sets then to double-head services would lead to some pretty lengthy breaks in the service if we were also going to swap the locos between the sets as planned.

We are trying to arrange a few additional attractions for the event, such as (for example) opening up the old signalbox on Corfe Castle Up platform for tours and things along those lines; essentially add-on's at no extra cost. As soon as these are confirmed, I will update the thread accordingly.

Just to let everyone know that the news item above was written before the arrival of 33202 on the railway. It is now planned that 33202 will also take part in the Winter Warm Up event, and a revised timetable and diagrams has been drafted and forwarded to our webmaster for uploading to the website shortly.

Sorry for the delay in the timetable appearing on the website; it has been forwarded but I know there has been some staff sickness in the relevant department. I am having a few days off until Sunday, but will chase it up on my return.

Just to give you something that you can work on, the departures from Swanage are as follows (departures from Norden 40 minutes later):-

    10:00 (steam)
    10:40 (diesel)
    11:06 (freight)
    11:20 (steam)
    12:00 (diesel)
    12:26 (freight)
    12:40 (steam)
    13:20 (diesel)
    13:46 (freight)
    14:00 (steam)
    14:40 (diesel)
    15:06 (freight)
    15:20 (steam)
    16:00 (diesel)
    16:40 (steam)

Hope this helps; I'll update the thread when I'm next in.

Passenger timetable and loco allocations now on the website at http://www.swanagerailway.co.uk/winterwarm.htm

In addition to the passenger workings, there are freight workings from Swanage at 11:06 (33111), 12:26 (30053), 13:46 (33202) and 15:06 (34070). These return from Norden 30 minutes later.

    Hope this helps.

    Manston faces Norden.

Quick poll though, which way would people want the M7 to face? There's nothing to prevent it facing either way...in fact, to save shunting I'll probably have it start on the other side of the turntable anyway!
