Rail staff could be taking six days of action unless talks with Central Trains prove successful, a union has said.

Conductors have planned strikes on 29 July and 5 and 12 August in a dispute over working hours. And station staff are set to strike on 28 July and 4 and 11 August, in a separate dispute over new technology.

Talks are being held on Tuesday between the company and the Rail and Maritime Transport Workers' Union. Central Trains operate across the Midlands.

General Secretary Bob Crow said: "In both disputes we are facing what amounts to a breakdown in normal industrial relations and in both cases our members have voted by a substantial margin to take action."

A Central Trains spokesman said talks were continuing and hoped strikes could be averted.
