Luckily, I got down to the location early as the charter was nearly 20 minutes up at this point!

Making lovely Deltic noises as it passed - took me back forty years... Wouldn't it be nice if a coaching stock operator was brave enough to paint a set of Mk. 1s blue and grey? Pity there's not a set of 2a's about that that could be done to :(

Pardon my ignorance, but who was Albert Gilmour?

Passing Welham Green on the return run. Gave a lovely 3 tone as she passed by. Started the day with an A4 and ended with a Deltic. So great to see an Eastern machine on Eastern metals DSC_3202 (2).JPG

Nice to see compartment stock on the mainline. Shame WCRC don't have any or if they do don't run it for paying passengers.

Albert Gilmour, my late father, was a Gateshead based engine driver, who enjoyed a 48 year career starting as an engine cleaner in 1940, working through the grades to become a driver in 1961. The tour was ran in his memory - and what a fitting tribute to an engine driver, who had driven Deltics from brand new in 1961, to their withdrawal in December 1981.

Some fantastic images here. If you would like them posted in the 52A Tours 'Tour Gallery' please forward with a brief note and location, and full credit will of course be given.

    Many thanks.

I, like many I'm sure, am grateful for this explanation. My condolences for the loss of your father.
