This looks a mammoth day out with total of 11 hours in the company of Tangmere. Lets hope all goes well for this lovely engine; just wondering whether diesel insurance will be used; I'm not well up on the hills in Surrey etc, but leaves etc ???

This run doesn't really use hilly routes (apart from the Westbury to Salisbury section, which is nowhere near as wooded as some), and doesn't touch Surrey. The leaves in the south of England are 98+% fallen now - frost and snow have finished off almost all the remaining ones! The weather looks set to be excellent for a winter steam trip.

For any photographers filming the train on Saturday, be aware that J15 No.7564 is rostered for the Santa specials at the Avon Valley Railway. A good way to spend a few hours waiting for Tangmere to return. <BJ>

Not sure. The last Bath and Bristol hauled by 44932 didn't have a diesel on the back but the last time 34067 hauled one she did.

Incidently if something happened to 34067 would the tour run with a diesel or be cancelled? I believe that 6201 and 4464 are at Southall but would guess there would be gauging issues for both locos and not sure if 4464's winter maintainence has begun yet. Of course I suspect 34067 will be fit and I look forward to seeing her both on Saturday at Haywards Heath and again on Wednesday when the Sussex Belle runs through there.

I thought that 6201 returned to Tyseley after the run to Chester this week.

According to UK Steam there's no LE movement for this current week and her location is written as Southall but then again it was written on Monday so she may have gone back.

Nothing else but a Black 5, the Britannia's, Tornado or Tangmere (and Braunton) would fit the Sussex bit of the route. I like this tour as it starts and finishes 1 mile from my house! Regarding the length of the tour on the last few runs (of this route) with Tangmere the return leg has been pushed by the diesel on the rear around the Sussex bit, I have always assumed due to some operational reason as the tour is so long, with a long ECS at either end as well. Is there due to be a diesel this time does anyone know?

Dan, if you look at the UK Steam site for the Cathedrals to Chester on Tues 4 Dec with Lizzie, timings show that she returned from Chester to Tyseley while the train was diesel hauled back to London. Problem solved...she's at Tyseley. Pete

    Oh right cheers.

Similar story to me. I live literally a few minutes walk from Haywards Heath station so its very convienient for me to go down there and see these tours. I have a few bits of steam stuff coming up in the next week or so as I have a few days off so I can see 34067 on Saturday, I plan to see 60163 at Chertsey on Monday (sadly due to some bad connecting trains I can't get to see her at Winchester or Eastleigh unless Eastleigh TRSMD is visible from the station.), I plan on going to the NRM either Tuesday or the following Monday and finally see 34067 again this Wednesday.

Arrived and left Haywards Heath more or less on time. Not so many people getting on this one than normally.

Oh dear back to that old chestnut again. 34067 seems to singled out again, never does a tour without a box on the back. If I were the owners I would question it.
I think Zosso was referring to this tour as well although in the wrong thread.

I presume you missed Parkstone bank the other week ?, there's probably some justification for singling 34067 out when you look at it's track record of getting into grief on hills.

Anyway, how do you know the 47 isn't supplying Electric Train Heat to the stock ?, bit hard to do that when it's shut down.
