According to a report on NE-Gen a crack has been found in the RH cylinder and a diesel will haul tomorrows (8th May) tour throughout.

I hope the person that posted that is wrong, but if they aren't its a great shame.

    Please,don't shoot the messenger!

    Cheers,
    Mark

Now running via Durham Coast line and the same Blyth & Tyne route that Tornado took the other week to avoid some run rounds.

I hope a repeat can be arranged when the K1 is fit. Dissapointing for all.

Let's hope its stitchable as a new casting is time and expense that no-one wants

Just returned home to this very bad news.
I can confirm the above is what has happened as far as I am aware.
A press release is in the process of being drawn up, so I wont comment further until that statement is issued.

Whatever happens with the K1 over the next few weeks all we can say is it wont be back soon enough.
However today went well just the same.
A few slight deviations from the plan with the NELPG finally getting through Sunderland after a run up the coast.
Then round the back of Gateshead through Newcastle and turn right at Benton onto the B + Tyne.
2 hours plus free time at Morpeth so plenty of Tea and coffee shops did a good trade.
Back on the train for 14.55 advised additional stop at Newcastle and a run down the line from Ferryhill to Stillington and Middlesborough.
In the event however the Stillington line was closed when we got to Ferryhill so carried on to Darlington and Middlesborough.
Returned to York at 1850 instead of 20.13
Reasonably good day out in the end.
Thanks NELPG for making the best of the circumstances.

Just to let you know that all passengers will be receiving a letter in the next few days with an explanation / apology. This letter has been posted by first class post at 17:15 yesterday (10th).
A similar posting is likely to appear on the website in the near future.

The letter arrived this morning and contained a lot of detail about the unfortunate events of the weekend. NELPG deserve a lot of credit for how they have acted on the day and after. It was a good tour bar the obvious lack of the K1 and route changes but these things happen. I see from the letter they are looking into rerunning this trip when the K1 returns from Scotland in the autumn.

NELPG website http://www.nelpg.org.uk/ updated with press release regarding rail-tour.

Can I just say thank you for the kind / supportive words expressed both here and on a number of website enquiry emails. It really does help make you feel more positive when you are (understandably) dealing with many complaints.
