Starting at Crewe and picking up at various stations to Carnforth, then, as the title suggest, on to York with steam haulage both ways, oh and it's fully booked...

That's great news. Wonder what Carnforth will turn out for this?

It is supposed to be going to Scarborough [1410 / 1555] and is called "The Yorkshire Coast Express" There has been nothing from Compass to say the itinerary has changed so hopefully it hasn't.

We are indeed running through to Scarborough. Tickets have just been posted so should arrive before the bank holiday. Also note a very limited number of seats have become available for the full trip last minute (please see stewards if paying on the day). We also have plenty of space between York and Scarborough as a few hundred passengers are breaking in York for the afternoon (full tour boarding between Crewe & Carnforth = £69). A special York-Scarborough day return will be available to those in the East or unable to join the full tour priced at £30 standard class (or £40 in first class) day return fare. These spaces from York should be paid for on board the train. Stewards will show you to you to available seats if travelling off York.

Is the motive power for the steam sections in the public domain yet?

Diesel en route from Carnforth to take the train forward. No idea if the steam is being left on the front or removed at York. Apparently it's in Holgate yard, not somewhere I'd like to spend 3 hours.

I have heard thet the 8F is being taken off at York and they are waiting for a diesel replacement to be sent from Carnforth. This is due to the lineside fires mentioned above by 5944

EDIT, cross posted with 5944...Has anybody out and about seen the diesel on it's way?

From Realtime Trains: This train has been cancelled due to late running caused by the decision of route control (OD)

What does that mean? How is everyone getting home?

Taken from the 55002 KOYLI Facebook page:

At this very moment, 55002 is getting prepared to work 1Z95 from York to Carnforth after the failure of steam loco 48151. We are expecting the train to depart York sometime after 20.30.

Further update in a comment. Apparently, 55002 can't be extracted from the NRM, and so 37516 is being summoned from Carnforth. Any confirmation would be appreciated.

That's what I thought! But it is clearly says that it was being prepped on the KOYLI Facebook page...

    Screen shot 2013-04-03 at 20.06.27.jpg

**Correction - Thinking about it, KOYLI moved 6229 from York to Shildon last year, didn't it? So maybe it is ML registered...**

Yes it is. A photo from the Koyli facebook page shows it running on the mainline e.g. taking Duchess of Hamilton to Shildon last year
