Not seen a thread for this so here is footage of 60009 at Scotby and a deserted Birkett on the return leg .

Lovely video as usual Stephen, though it seemed that, particularly on the Birkett shot, the 47 (Roy Castle OBE) was doing a lot of work.

I saw No 9 arrive at Hellifield (in full sun!) and asked driver Gordon Hodgson if he had had a good run. "Not really, with the fire risk." he said

Where is 60009? Only 47786 returned to Carnforth tonight from Farington Junc. Did the A4 return to Carnforth from Hellifield?

The streak dodges the steam ban 19 July 2014

A long period of dry weather and a series of strikes by the Fire Brigades Union have led to cancellation or dieselisation of a large number of steam specials in recent days, particularly on the East Coast route and in the South East.
RTC's Cumbrian Mountain Express lost northbound steam over Shap today but John Cameron's A4 Pacific No 60009 Union of South Africa was able to run south over the Settle and Carlisle line. The day's dreadful weather cleared just before she arrived at Hellifield, where she was bathed in glorious sunshine. Sadly it appeared that the diesel on the rear had done some pushing to reduce the risk of further lineside fires.

    Hi Andrew,

As the last two of my photos show (see above and at http://pjhtransportpix.zenfolio.com/p613977950 ), No 9 left Hellifield five minutes early with 11 coaches and the diesel behind, and I assume went through to Farington Junction.

Its next possible duty on UK Steam is the CME out of Liverpool next Saturday - might it have gone to Crewe ready for that?

    (Repost from another thread)

Just caught it west of Langho climbing Whalley Banks 15 early. Whilst it was racing up the banks, the 47 at the back seemed to be giving it a big push from the back. Suppose this tour was a big of a let down for the steam buffs on it being steam only from Carlisle to Lostock hall junction and then being pushed up the hills.
