    PRICE cuts on Welsh railways have resulted in a 25% increase in passenger numbers.

    Arriva was urged yesterday to cut train fares across Wales after a staggering response to a promotion on one route.

    In January Arriva Trains Wales cut fares on the main line between Swansea, Cardiff and Newport by up to 40%, in its Price Buster promotion.

    The result is an increase of nearly 25% in passengers between Swansea and Newport in under three months. That is despite the fares offer coming in at a quiet time of the year.
