Splendid, look forward to seeing the 8F again. Back in my role as Ratty steward onboard the steam tours for the summer, will be joining at Carnforth. Single journey only unfortunately but gives me scope for a nice shot leaving Ravenglass, as long as it's not pouring down too much.

Arrival into Ravenglass was about 50 late, load 12 after 80217 put on the rear. Weather grey and miserable, about 400 on the train.

As there's not much about this trip I'll add a link to my video of the outward leg at Grange - spoilt by wind and rain (typical Bank Holiday) so wouldn't have bothered otherwise but a record shot nonetheless:

My photos of the day. Weather was crap at Ravenglass and to top it off I was experimenting with my camera and put it on a High Definition mode, not thinking that of course the train would be moving and hence the photo blurred when it went past me. Ah well, 48151 was well turned out, hoping next time there might be a little bit of sunshine.

Re: Any Interest in THE LAKELANDER?

Anybody got any idea on times for the next Lakelander, which is running this Saturday, June 19th? I'm guessing it will be another 8F thrash, though hopefully with better weather and less delays than the last trip!

    Ta.

I've lost track - will that be her first mainline trip since The Cotton Mill?

Interesting... we've never had her up here, or at least, not recently. Though I still like to hear the 8F chuntering away.

Though I don't think I could put up with the forseeable bumper-haul of phots from the Cumbrian Coast - Arnside viaduct. There's far more interesting parts of the route to photograph! Not just the bits that are spitting distance from the M6... Go on, be adventurous, folks! I'm quite limited in that I haven't passed my driving test (yet) and am stuck at Ravenglass after getting off the train, though if it's a nice day then I might have a wander a mile down the beach to Eskmeals viaduct for the return leg (the Ravenglass bank of the river, obviously, as I'm not swimming across).

Be fair Eliot, unless your a north west native then the Cumbrian Coast is a fair trek.

Got no stamina! Some of us are unfortunate enough to live here. :)

The Class 37 enthusiasts all made it alright for the Jam Express when it was running! ;) (that's every single time there was a 37 on it, the same folks, without fail, some coming from several hundred miles away!)

I just think if you're going to make the effort, then why not go somewhere different to the rest of the crowd? Because the results are always worth it. I just find the British railway photography scene a bit too conservative, when considering the vast variety of fantastic scenery we have, it could be so much more diverse.

Not sure what you're getting at here? When I've been up to the Cumbrian Coast for steam, there've always been a healthy number of photters out and about along the complete length of the line. What are we missing? Please do show us the pics. For me, the best part of the line is the coastal section north of Sellafield up as far as Workington, but these trains don't go that far. Eskmeals is nice, but much of the section south from there, while being nice enough, isn't that interesting and the light often harsh at the usual timings. There are some good spots though.
