OK so I know it's a long way off but Neil, Matt and myself have decided to go on this trip as change from being behind the camera at the lineside.
Although nothing is definite, It will probably the last run over Shap and the penultimate run with Bill and Frank in charge, before 6233 comes out of service for it's overhaul.
Anyone who would like to join our party is most welcome, Neil, Belle1 is in charge of booking.

I will give them a ring tomorrow in between work so I will hopefully be able to post a bit more info late afternoon/evening tomorrow.

    Thanks, Neil.

I have spoken to RTC and booked Ralph, Matt and myself on. Please PM me if you would like to join us as a group travelling together (standard class) and I will PM the details back.

    John, you have a PM.

    Thanks, Neil.

I've had a look at previous S&C timings where the loco comes on at Hellifield, departure of 11.20/50 is most likely with the train picking up at Warrington at 10.00. This would mean arrival in Carlisle just over 2 hours later.

The Royal Scot, our trip, is scheduled to arrive in Carlisle at 13.30 with a 16.00 departure, so yes there will be an historic meeting.
Crewe will also see The Earl on that day as well, on the trip to Blackpool.

    Ralph.

I think Tornado arrives around 2pm, departs at 4.30pm.

so yes once, maybe twice !

the castle isnt leaving Blackpool before 8pm according to VT website.

So yes we're chasing steam.. by steam.

Thinking about doing this with a mate instead of the GCR Gala, but have to work out a bit of an itinerary, as we intend to get to Crewe from Swansea. 05:29 train is the best (so early night!) to arrive at Crewe 09:25. However, the return is a bit dicey; if there are any delays in the north and we miss the 20:12 (arriving at Swansea 00:02), we'd only be able to get back as far as Cardiff (which is potentially alright, as there's a friend of a friend there). Can't really afford both a hotel in Crewe and rail transport to get there. Will have to make up my mind fairly soon, though...

Hmm. There's 75 seats left in standard class, and I'm liking the idea of adding around 120 miles to my railway map of Britain by steam, so probably will do it, but I have the Downsman to deal with first. Thankfully, my wages are due tomorrow! By the way, if you like your real ale (as most people on these things seem to), and acknowledge that Bulleids are entitled to their place in British Railway history, then we'll get on fine! Nah, seriously, I'll book it this week methinks, then I have a chance of getting the £79.99 back over the next two pay packets. I like to travel over routes with appropriate motive power, so it really would be a bonus. Should be a good one!

I'm booking tomorrow morning. I decided to take the plunge, and sort out the consequences of possibly missing a connecting train at Cardiff at midnight when I come to them...

Oh, well, I just took the plunge and booked it from Crewe, and my friend's doing so tomorrow. There's currently 72 seats left in standard class, which should disappear over the next couple of months if not sooner. So, see you chaps on the day!

Ive booked on it from London, requested to be with Neil's group.

I think i'm going to detrain at Crewe on the return, Wait for the Castle on the way back, stay overnight in the area and head to Loughborough on Sunday,
though i'm toying up the opposite.. Loughborough on friday, train to Crewe and overnight there friday, then return to london behind the 86 on saturday.

Ive booked the Pannier playday round brum in November too.

I'm thinking of doing Loughborough on Sunday, but I'd only have 2 1/2 hours to see the lot, so depending on the price, I'll have to think about it. Last train with connections to Haverfordwest is 15:18, and the first train of the day from Crewe is 09:03 arriving at Loughborough sometime around 12:28, so if I do take a ride, it'll be to Quorn and back.
