    Timings on RTT

I know I live in the past on these things. Well, in reality all of us main line steam fans do, with the possible exception of those who follow 60163.

But to me the only real Royal Wessex thing about this is the departure time of 16.35.

But NOT Weymouth please. 16.35 from Waterloo. A clean Merchant Navy, :), 12 or 13 cars, :) a Nine Elms top link crew. :( and a decent schedule down the main line to and/from Waterloo :).

No, no, some of them were OK. Just a few who were getting old gave the "bad" runs, and only wanted to just keep time and then only if the loco was in top condition and there were no checks on the way. Can't really blame them for that. There was at least one Salisbury top link driver like that, "it's a West Country, not a Merchant Navy so we shall lose 3 minutes on the schedule today". And he did! So we learned to avoid the ACE when he was booked for it. But give someone at Salisbury like Fred Hoare original condition 34002 on the up ACE that arrived at Salisbury on time, and he could knock 4 minutes, (net time), off the already quite fast MN schedule to Waterloo.

Anyway, if SD fill the train, make some money and can run more trains because of that, then good luck to them. Hope it all goes well tomorrow for them and all on board.

Don't know if he will be but I certainly will. Steam over the Netley line is very rare and then a second shot either on Redbridge Causeway or at Totton.

Yes shades of the old Royal Wessex. A Merchant with 13 on. Actually considered to be easy as it was given extra time to compensate for the load and the extra stops, 72 minutes to Winchester could be kept without exceeding 70 mph and with the engine barely breaking breath.

He will, but he knoweth not where yet. As an aside just let it be known, (I know he is humble about such things so wont reveal it himself) someone well known on here got issued with a ticket with much admiration by Kent Constabulary about his splendidly quick driving, while chasing last weekends Mayflower trip. It wasn't me I hasten to add.

    Oh dear!

The price for following an invading steam loco in Kent. If it were 34067 or 35028 etc he would most likely have been given a motorbike escort to the next photo spot.

    ;)

It may have been a marked police car or not. But I do warn anyone coming down here to keep to speed limits. I have seen a number of unmarked police cars on the roadside of such as the M20 seemingly issuing tickets to motorists. They cannot afford a police presence when you need it, or to find anyone to come to a very well attended Parish Council meeting to explain why they did virtually nothing to stop a major problem involving a lot of law breaking here last year. But when it comes to chasing motorists or sending out camera vans it seems to me they have unlimited funds.

But back to the train running from Sussex to Weymouth tomorrow.

As always looking forward to the roaring lion video clips and to any still photos.

Thought the people of Kent were used to illegal immigrants?

I have liked that as it appeals to my sense of humour. A humour I am often quite happy to direct or see directed at me personally. But I apologise for doing that to those who are more PC oriented than myself. As they have every right to be.

Back to thread. Not checked anywhere but I assume it is 61306 again on the Royal Wessex. NO, I've just checked, Its 34067.

    Tangy, behave tomorrow.

Hmm, am thinking about some night Owl field work Sat/Sunday down here in Kent, or I might go out and see this one.

Hoping to see Tangmere around Bedhampton this morning, let's hope she sounds and looks as good she did on Wednesday.

More or less on time so far and at last on the correct route for the real Royal Wessex.

As for the timings now. A bit late for the old 08.30 two hour express ex Waterloo, (09.54 ex Soton), even for the 08.35, (10.30). And a bit early for the old 09.30, (11.27).

And with no stop at Brockenhurst cannot be seen as running in anything like the path of the real Wessex!

Slightly worrying is the RTT current estimated departure time from Soton, 10.51. The time of the old bod cart that used to run from Pompey to Salisbury. The one that at xx.48 into Soton virtually always made the down 2 hour expresses late due to checks at St Denys while it went in front through the tunnel etc. Hope that time doesn't mean Tangy will be pushed out of Soton so a diesel engine throb can re-enact the sounds of the past.

We've just been told on the train that Tangmere will be detached at Eastleigh on the return journey. Diesel only from there to Three Bridges. Late change by Network Rail as engineering works tonight would prevent Tangmere getting back to Southall in time.

Another example of NR doing it all at the last minute. So, actually, this has now turned into the second steam trip in as many days where it is diesel hauled more than by steam.

Just thundered through Redbridge Tangers looking and sounding as good as Wednesday, slight shove from the back - nothing much to detract from the overall show

I do try to be supportive of NR, but something like this.

Did they really hold back on this until the train was about to start off?

Arty is fine, but I am a bit worried about the sound track now.

Grim light at the Hamble bridge but lovely sun at Totton. Tangmere going well there and not a sound from the DL

Does that mean the DL wont get back either or has it been retimed? The sooner we see the end of NR the better. They have had their wings clipped financially so at least that's a start

I have a simple request. Is it possible for a tour operator plus a TOC to devise and agree with NR a charter than starts from a former Southern Region terminus, preferably Waterloo, with a steam locomotive on the front and nothing on the back. The train then travels to anywhere you like in the south east/south of England, spends a while there and then returns to its starting point with a steam locomotive on the front and nothing on the back? I seem to remember that when steam charters used to run in the south, this was typically what happened.

Is this all just too much to ask in 2015, as I have money I am prepared to spend for that privilege. Or do we all now have to move north to somewhere within striking distance of Birmingham, Crewe or Manchester?
