    Hi All

Starting a new link for this subject, as the date draws closer (4 weeks) as of today, news seems to have dried up
Anyone got any ideas of proper times, not the ones on Past Time?

Should be able to give you a more definitive figure afterwards from my GPS.

Timings for the trip now on Uk steam at the following address:
    http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t09/t0329a.htm

As soon as i work out the mileage i need to do it again! Notice the train has been re-routed via Denton Junc and Stockport to New Mills South Junc instead of the ashburys and romiley route. Means that the overall tour mileage has risen to 127.33 miles (m&c).

Should be a good day for the general public who least expect to see Steam Engines working past them up severe gradients. I've always loved to watch the faces of the unsuspecting public as steam engines pass, fantastic!

The only down side is that where the train is moving slowly, it reinforces a common misconception that steam engines are very very slow. Shame. I sometimes take friends over to the ECML just to show them a steam engine on the mainline. They are always shocked by the speed.

It is just a shame that the published rare track from Victoria to New Mills has been taken off the originally published itinerary, and the route is now via Denton and Stockport.

Still - we have the day overall - and let's hope this is no "one off"

I think the line has been earmarked for tram train testing. These vehicles would be diesel and electric power. The idea should be to link in with the super tram system in Sheffield, Im guessing. Lowering of the platforms has been mentioned on the Penistone line. I cant see why steam cant continue to run as well as the train trams. There would be no overhead wires on the line. The line is 50mph max my mate works as a guard on the line. I would guess we wont get up to anything near that speed though. Loads speed restrictions. I know a bridge near Meadowhall has a much lower speed for loco hauled trains than the regular sprinter units.
Last Junes trip up to Barnsley with 45407 was very leisurely. I'm hoping there will be a few videos on the web of the climb to Dodworth. I'm booked on the train.

It is advertised as double headed steam 45407+76079, why would this include a 47 on the rear?

Tickets arrived today, coach J so its either right at the back or at the front.. [-o< It will be strange being a fare paying passenger again with the Riley pair on the front, must remember not to jump in the support coach by mistake. :(
