    Looks like they'll be spending the night there, must be an engineering possession north of Preston Saturday night, wasn't that the case last time, maybe not the same tour but I remember hanging over the wall beside the county council offices to see them parking there for the night.

    They certainly did. I got a shot on the way home between Waverley's last sailing of the year on Loch Long and an evening at Little Bispham fotting trams - a splendid day out - unlike the following day when the clutch gave up on the Escort chasing the 09 Tin Bath - but we had reached the last photo location before it went dark so nothing lost - and it wasn't even the clutch - just a plastic cable ratchet - so cheap to mend too.

    Try the high ground overlooking Penistone viaduct.

    Location I used last year was from the A629 Halifax Road. There is somewhere to park at the junction of Halifax Road and Well House Lane, walk along the road a little and you will find the spot overlooking the viaduct. My shot can be found around 3.26 in the video below;

    While that does give a great view of the viaduct if there's any sun then you would be shooting directly into it.

    Quite correct Stuart, I got away with it last year as after a bright start it started to cloud over a little allowing me to do that shot. Advance forecasts I've seen for this weekend seem to imply cloud and drizzle.

    I'm working too, but hope to finish early enough to see it pass between the Brighouse water stop and when the light goes. Lydgate would be my hope but 16:31 at Stansfield Hall Jnc, it may be hoping in vain. An 8 minute video run and then 20 minute walk back to the road in total darkness. Who said I was sensible?

    For an 8 minute video, that's got to be worth it, get yourself a torch...

    Something I will now miss having just discovered that Arriva Trains Wales are running an amended service tomorrow and have done away with the 08 28 departure from Crewe to Manchester which I was using to catch the charter.
    Modern railways grrrrrrrrrrrrr :doh: :frusty: :rant:
