Looks a great tour to see out 2009.

With 44871 returning, and possibly the bill and frank final run mentioned earlier by Cambrian55, it looks to be a tour that cant be missed!

I have read in one of the latest magazines that 44871 is to have its mainline test runs on a date around week commencing Monday 21 Dercember, so hopefully all will go well so it can take part in the tour with its sister engine as predicted.

    Fingers crossed!

If you are referring to the Pathfinder R/tour then it has apparently been cancelled due to lack of bookings - may be something to do with the revised motive power being Class 66 & Class 56 instead?

Just booked on this. Looking forward to seeing out the year with some double 5 thrash and the holy grail of a snow covered S&C -we have the best chance of a white Xmas for 20 years apparently! All in all a not to be missed tour.

Paul Hudson's enthusiasm about the White Chrimbo seems to have faded, although we are getting some this week apparently.

Looking at UK Steam and with fingers crossed, 44871 starts its mainline comeback on its first test run tomorrow from Castleton - Carnforth WCRC in preperation to take her first tour duty on the 30th.

Is she now complete and ready to run tomorrow, as there has been no news from what i can see yet?

    Any info much appreciated.

Thanks 46118 for providing us with a a great vid of its return to service. It's hard to find any news, pics or vids at the moment, so much appreciated.

A huge congratulations must go to Riley and his team for the overhaul. Super job and looks superb.

    Top marks to all involved!

I've just been told that Ian has said on the other side that he intends to reverse into Castleton station, then set off from there.
I might just change my location..

Just thinking, what has happened to "running-in" these days? a day on the ELR Santas, LE to Carnforth, a loaded test run, and then off over Shap!

Confidence in a job well done I suggest!

(Sorry, this is old news - I hadn't seen the latest posts)

From another place on Saturday night:
"WE DID IT!! 44871 today hauled her first passanger trains in over 15 years, and the performance was outstanding! After several difficult days, mainly due to a seized valve in the air brake system she made her debut on todays Santa Specials on the ELR. A few snags to sort out tomorrow, then we're all set for a light test run to Carnforth on Monday."

And from Ian Riley himself last night:
"..........and we are all ready!....... "

Peter, on a bright, snowy Manchester morning
