Perhaps that idiot half out of the front drop light (and in Stuart's picture) would have preferred to have been attached to the front of the Deltic for a better experience.

Maybe it would be possible to create a coupe dickey seat in the bonnets of the locomotive and sell the seat at a premium for those who wanted their "thrash" in the raw...

Tom, a 'Dickey Seat' was one in the rear of a car, when the boot lid was hinged at the bottom, so you opened it, latched it half open then the two seats folded forward from the boot lid.... I know because the 1930's Drophead Alvis that my Father had was fitted with them thus making it a 6 seater.
So in this instance they would be on/in the rear bonnet of the Deltic, more thrash there and the fumes as well.;)

I was thinking more of attaching him in a manner similar to the dolls often pinned to the front grill of corporation dust carts.

It may be hard to believe Al, but that is actually well inside for "thrash" fans (actually looks like an arm with a video camera).

Not like I haven't seen plenty of them out of steam charters...

Anyone "flailing" (straight arm out of the window) on tours these days gets a ticking off from stewards and presumably ejected if it continues so hopefully it will become less common.

That is good to hear - I fear some people forget that the mainline is double track and lineside structures and vegetation is maintained for almost all trains having at most small, hopper windows at the top.

Considering the weather forecast for the day you managed to get lucky and get some lovely lighting conditions-still not convinced with this location, prefer the one with the gate lol

Rode in one of those in my aunt's Triumph Roadster. Now there was a car.

Wonderful pics and clips of D9009. Thanks for sharing chaps. Not enough Deltic trips by a long way and certainly not enough starting from London.
