I've just heard a rumour that Tornado is now NOT running on this tour, after a lot of speculation about it's return on this date. Is this true?

I'm not putting 2 and 2 together but I was at Wansford on Saturday PM and there was a large group from the Tornado society there in the cafe .60163 was lite up with smoke coming out of the chimney (but I wouldn't say it was in steam.)A van was in the yard with R C Riley locomotive engineers on the side. Five men were looking at the right hand side valve gear the hour or so I was there ,but didn't seem to be doing anything. Please see Sundays photo. Sorry ,Its Saturday .

It may, or may not, be significant but some events linked to here are not showing if you click the links, to wit the driver experiences and the fish and chip specials.

With just 11 days to go to this railtour I am expecting a late cancellation or substitute locomotive and would hope for an announcement from the A1 Trust soon.

It has not been seen running on the NVR since Friday and there is no sign of it on the webcams this morning although it is supposed to be a Tornado driver experience day.

I should imagine customers find the lack of current information on the running in process frustrating.

I would expect to have the first main line test run at least a week before followed by a loaded test run. Time seems to be running out.

Someone, somewhere said the loaded test run would be at night so if someone wants to trawl RTT for anything leaving Orton Mere this week...

The honest and gentlemanly thing to do would be not to promote any further tours until such time they have a fully working and certified locomotive

That equates to c.46 round trips on the NVR. At six a day - easily achievable - that won't take too long.

According to the latest Tornado Telegraph a test run on the national network is scheduled for 25th September, an operation that will run overnight. That of course was before whatever the problem is that has prevented her running since Friday, but fingers

crossed it will all be sorted by the 29th. :Morewaitingisrequired:

Actually a rhetorical question. We know it's only one and the inspector requested further work. Hence the cancellation of the Driver Experience trips and the Tornado 10 event this weekend looking doubtful.

Many railtours advertise locomotives that then do not make the starting gun. Railtours are always subject to some changes and the traction is one such factor. It is unfortunate but rest assured the trust are doing all they can to rectify it. If you think anyone likes having a good locomotive out of service, you're mistaken.

If you already knew the answer, why ask the question? We know why, of course.

As a side point - this should be put in the existing Tornado thread, surely?

Just time for the trust to become more open and transparent. Things they have not been in recent weeks.

How much more open and transparent could they be at the moment? What more information do you think they have to hand at this stage?

Unless you are part of the inner workings, you don't know what work has taken place, what the current plan is, what the timescales are. Most of the trust are busy getting on with the job of fixing Tornado. If they make the dates, great - if not, there's not much more that can be done.

If you want more information from the Trust, ask them for it directly. Coming on here making accusations of a lack of transparency won't help you or them.

:Banghead: More open and transparent ??? Is that a joke?? It's safe to say that the A1 people are just about the most ' open' group of folk about. What the hell do you want??
Since the Ebor incident the A1 team have kept folks VERY well informed , they even published photos of the machined new bits (and remember, they were under no obligation to do so). I would imagine that all efforts at this time are being directed towards getting Tornado up to main line spec. and being 'open and transparent' is not at the top of their list of priorities.

    Very well said,Victor.

I think people are used to being spoon fed every last detail, however inaccurate,on the likes of Facebook. Give them space to get on with the job

As a supporter and covenantor, nobody was more saddened than I was at the events than took place in April. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.
